MAGICAL CHRISTMAS ADVENTURES IN SEATTLE FOR FAMILIES – 2024 Edition

December 11, 2024

In our opinion, Seattle is the perfect locale for Christmas festivities. The weather is cold enough to get you in the cozy Christmas spirit, but we don’t have to deal with snow slowing down our Christmas cheer. Whether you’re a local or visiting, there’s no shortage of magical moments to create together this Christmas. Here’s a roundup of the best family-friendly holiday experiences in Seattle for 2024. We've added a $$$ ranking to help you assess the impact of these festive activities on your budget.

1. Enchant Christmas at T-Mobile Park ($$$)

Step into a dazzling maze of lights at Enchant Christmas, where families can explore larger-than-life light displays, skate on a whimsical ice skating trail, and shop for unique gifts at the holiday market. The kids will love meeting Santa and his helpers, and parents can sip on warm holiday drinks while soaking in the festive ambiance.

2. Snowflake Lane in Bellevue (FREE ENTRY)

This is one of Kendal’s favorites. Festive mall + live parade + snow.  What’s not to like? Perhaps it’s the sheer undertaking of putting on a parade every day for nearly a month that fascinates. A short drive from Seattle, Snowflake Lane at the Bellevue Collection is a holiday tradition that brings nightly parades of toy soldiers, snow machines, and live music performances. Families can grab hot cocoa and enjoy the festive show under twinkling lights—it’s pure holiday magic!

3. Winterfest at Seattle Center (FREE ENTRY)

European Christmas vibes here! Seattle Center’s Winterfest is a month-long celebration featuring live performances, ice sculpting, and the famous Winter Train and Village. Watch your little ones marvel at the intricate train displays or take a spin around the outdoor ice rink. Don’t miss the chance to snap a family photo with the festive backdrop of the Space Needle! The Christmas Market does have a ticket entry of $15-20 which is too rich for our blood…maybe next year.

4. Woodland Park Zoo’s WildLanterns ($$)

Our family hits up WildLanterns every other year or so, and it’s always a festive experience. Immerse your family in a world of glowing animal-themed lanterns at Woodland Park Zoo’s WildLanterns exhibit. It’s an awe-inspiring experience for kids and adults alike, as larger-than-life displays bring the zoo to life in a whole new way.

5. Teddy Bear Suite at Fairmont Olympic Hotel (FREE ENTRY - suggested donation)

The Teddy Bear Suite at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel is a cozy holiday favorite, featuring a room filled with teddy bears in a festive setting. Families can take pictures with the cuddly displays and enjoy the holiday atmosphere. Proceeds from the event support Seattle Children’s Hospital. We took our 3 year-old and she was the perfect age for this adorable outing.

6. Holiday Theatre Performances ($$$)

Seattle is home to an array of holiday-themed theatrical performances. Catch a family-friendly show like The Nutcracker by Pacific Northwest Ballet or A Christmas Carol at ACT Theatre. Or you might try one of Seattle’s smaller venues, like Happy Christmas, Jeeves at Taproot Theatre in Greenwood (our favorite!)

7. Argosy Christmas Ships Onshore Events (FREE)

One of Seattle’s most beloved holiday traditions, the Argosy Christmas Ships offers families the chance to sail across Lake Union or Lake Washington while carolers serenade you from the deck. You can also gather on the shore to watch the brightly lit ships glide across the water.

8. Kringle’s Filling Station ($$)

Visit Kringle’s Filling Station for a retro holiday experience like no other! This interactive attraction features vintage holiday decor, festive treats, and a chance to meet Santa in a unique setting. Kids will love the playful atmosphere, and parents will enjoy the nostalgic vibes.

9. Holiday Shopping at Pike Place Market (FREE ENTRY)

Pike Place Market turns festive with holiday decorations and seasonal vendors. Kids will enjoy the lively atmosphere, and parents can shop for locally made gifts, fresh produce, and artisanal treats. Santa often makes an appearance, so have those wish lists ready!

10. Santa Train in Snoqualmie ($$$)

Hop aboard the Santa Train in nearby Snoqualmie for a nostalgic journey through scenic landscapes. Along the way, families can enjoy hot cocoa and cookies while kids meet Santa in a cozy train car. It’s a delightful experience for train lovers of all ages.

11. Gingerbread Village at the Sheraton Grand Seattle (FREE - suggested donation)

Visit the iconic Gingerbread Village, where local architects and pastry chefs team up to create jaw-dropping gingerbread displays. Each year has a unique theme, and families can vote for their favorite creation. Proceeds often benefit local charities.

12. DIY Christmas Tree Farms (FREE ENTRY)

Head out to one of the many Christmas tree farms around Seattle for a hands-on experience picking and cutting your own tree. Farms like Trinity Tree Farm and Enchanted Winds Tree Farm also offer bonfires, hot cocoa, and visits with Santa, making it a full holiday outing.

13. Festive Neighborhood Light Displays (FREE)

Bundle up and take an evening stroll through some of Seattle’s most festive neighborhoods. Olympic Manor in Ballard and Candy Cane Lane in Ravenna are known for their over-the-top Christmas light displays, perfect for creating that holiday glow. Tulalip Resort Casino has also become a destination, boasting over 7.8 million lights on display.

14. Seattle Aquarium’s Diving Santa ($$)

Meet Diving Santa at the Seattle Aquarium! Hear from the holly jolly diver about how you can help the ocean this holiday season. Nothing says “sea-son’s greetings” like a selfie with Santa! Diving Santa viewings are included with Aquarium admission.

15. Swansons Nursery and Sky Nursery Holiday Events (FREE ENTRY)

The employees at Sky Nursery are probably starting to recognize us, and we will hit up Swansons at least three times this holiday season as well. Both Swansons Nursery in Blue Ridge and Sky Nursery in Shoreline are transformed into festive wonderlands during the holiday season. Families can browse for Christmas trees and holiday decor, enjoy seasonal workshops, and meet Santa. Swansons also features a holiday train display and wonderful cafe with koi ponds, making it a magical outing for kids and adults alike.
